Harriett is a colourful, creative, and resilient individual who has faced life’s challenges with determination and spirit. Since being “adopted” by Amicus at just 20 years old, she has grown into a vibrant and independent woman who knows she can count on the Amicus team whenever she needs extra support.

For more than 16 years, Harriett has lived independently, managing her home and lifestyle while continuing to maintain strong connections with her family. Through the encouragement and guidance of Amicus, she has built the confidence to take on new experiences and express herself through her creativity.

A passionate artist, Harriett runs “Harriett’s Wild Heart Art and Craft,” selling her handmade beanies, loom bands, diamond art, and scrapbooking pieces. She proudly explains: “Selling people things made with love, makes me feel special. It’s like magic here at Amicus! Everything comes to life.”

The right priorities

Over the years, Harriett has embraced the many lessons and skills she has learned through Amicus. She reflects: “With Amicus, I’ve learned how to prioritise, listen, share, and care. You’ve got to make your own opportunities in life and grow from them.” 

These words reflect the personal growth she has achieved and the encouragement she has received to keep setting goals and striving for independence.

Fun and inspirational

And, of course, life with Harriett is never without a splash of fun. She loves visiting the airport to watch planes and helicopters, enjoys a good shopping trip, and has saved up for her new passion for tattoos (she has seven so far!).
