New restrictions for Melbourne and Mitchell Shire

The Victorian Premier announced that there were 288 new cases in Victoria today, Friday 10 July. He confirmed at this stage there are no plans to extend a return to stage 3 restrictions beyond the current metro Melbourne LGA’s and Mitchell Shire.

There are currently 4 active cases in Bendigo, one an employee of Bendigo Health and one an employee of City of Greater Bendigo. At this stage it is believed that these are related to Melbourne known cases, not community transmission.

The Premier has today recommended that people living in the Melbourne and Mitchell LGA’s wear face masks when they are in situations that mean that they can’t physical distance.

Remember that physical distancing and good hand and respiratory hygiene are our best defence against transmission. We remind all you to stay safe by washing your hands regularly, coughing and sneezing into your elbow, keeping at least 1.5 metres from others and staying home if you feel unwell.

From Wednesday 8 July, Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions were reinstated in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire to reduce the risk of further transmission of COVID-19.

This means that for these areas there are four reasons that you can leave home:

  • Shopping for food or other essential items
  • To provide caregiving, for compassionate reasons or to seek medical treatment
  • For exercise (outdoor exercise only, with only one other person or members of your household)
  • Work or study, if you cannot work or study from home

For the rest of Victoria, we will maintain the same restrictions for now and we will update you If there are any further restrictions that impact Amicus regions.

The Victorian Government is asking us all to use common sense when it comes to visiting friends and family, especially those who are more vulnerable. That means seeing only those you need to – if you need to.

Remember to keep up with our COVID-19 information hub on the Amicus website which we are regularly updating with changes and new information.
